What a city...
These were the words going through Bregan's head as he made his way through the door of the Pokémon Lab, rubbing at his eyes with his left hand. Never before had the idea of such a large location occurred to him. The home which he had known all his life seemed to pale in comparison to the point of near-invisibility. The great ships docked in the port, the bright lights, the people... from the moment he stepped off that ship and into the harbor itself, everything had been overwhelming. He even thought he had seen, at one point, some great vessel in the sky, as though a ship were in the air! But that would be impossible... wouldn't it?
'Feh, none of that matters right now... at least I found this place, thanks to all those signs about the city,' he thought to himself, casting his gaze about the building. Rather nondescript in appearance, really, the only thing that seemed of particular importance being the desk. Ah, right, the desk. That was probably where they would keep what he came for, though it appeared that no one was there at the moment. Regardless, he stepped to it, plates scraping against each other, and leaned against it. He doubted much time would pass before someone arrived, so he spent time examining the desk a bit, and wondering what other technological marvels he might observe in this new land.

An older man shuffling through a folder would round the corner, stopping midstep to stare at the man leaning on his desk in a full suit of armor. "Okay Cheevers, don't panic! There is a man in armor with weaponry standing at your desk, you can do this! He probably won't stab you! Probably!" he thought to himself, panicking slightly.
"Erm, excuse me sir. Can I help in any way?"

Bregan's face turned sharply, eyes now refocusing from desk to the elderly gentleman before him. He wasn't quite sure what to think of him, though he seemed rather nervous. An introduction would probably be the best thing to start with.
"Ah, yes, you can! Sorry, my name is Bregan, I was thinking for a moment that no one was here... I'm, well, here for a Pokémon, you see. I've just arrived from across an ocean, though which one I'm not quite certain." The man seemed to be shaking, almost... was he always this bad when meeting new people? Was something wrong with his own appearance, perhaps, and the man too afraid to say something? He inspected his face in what little manner he could, holding his armored right forearm up, trying to catch his diluted reflection. The signs hadn't led him astray, had they?[/blockquote]

At the mention of Pokémon training, Cheevers seemed to soften slightly, though still shaking. "Of course, of course! You just want a Pokémon, nothing to worry about. Haha..." he replied, seeming to be reassuring himself rather than talking to Bregan. "Right this way, armor-clad trainer-to-be."
Cheevers led the man to a board on the wall, listing what Pokémon were available for new trainers. "Do you have any idea what you want, lad?" he said, still a rather shakily. "We have ah, a fine selection I hope you'll be happy with!"

As the old man led him towards the board hanging on the wall, Bregan wondered what could possibly have the man so terrified. As far as he could tell from his reflection, there was nothing wrong with his appearance. Furthermore, the man was in the presence of a knight who, while lacking Pokémon currently, could easily defend him if need be with blade and shield. What could possibly be the problem?
He leaned over toward the board, allowing his eyes to scroll along the listed Pokemon. They were all so... interesting. He'd never seen anything quite like them, although for one odd reason or another, on seemed to stand out beyond the others. There was just something about it... yes, this was the one.
"I think I'd like to take one of these, er, 'Charmanders,'" he requested, pronouncing the name wrong. "I mean, if you can. I hope it's not the Pokémon that you're afraid of, otherwise I'd have to question your integrity in taking this job, milord."

Cheevers attempted to relax further at the young man's reply. "Oh certainly not, Pokémon are nothing to be afraid of! I'm just ah...Not feeling well! Yes, that's it, not feeling well. I'm old and frail, you see." he said, nodding satisfactorily at his blatantly obvious lie to cover up what little dignity he had left in front of Bregan. "One Charmander, coming up!"
After a few minutes in the other room, Cheevers returned with a Pokéball, and a little more than a few scorch marks on his lab coat, his thinning hair slightly singed. "Here you are, then. Be careful, he's a feisty one." he noted. He then pulled a Pokédex, five Pokéballs, and a Map from his desk, extending them to Bregan. "And this will start you on your journey. Best of luck to you! Not that you'll need it, or anything."
Acquired: Charmander (Male) Feisty Personality Pokéball x5 Pokédex Map

Bregan realized his mispronunciation as soon as the man said the name, obviously properly due to his extended experience with Pokémon. As for the confirmation that he was sick, Bregan shrugged as he left to fetch the Pokémon, supposing that it could easily be true.
On his return, with a somewhat more... burnt outfit, Bregan took all the items he was given in his arms, almost trying to juggle the assortment before stuffing them in belt pockets for temporary storage. He'd have to examine exactly what this critter could do at some point... but not here, not now.
"Thank you very much, sir, and I do hope you feel better before long!" With that, Bregan exited the lab, and re-entered the jungle of a city, having taken the first step on a likely long journey.[/blockquote]
