Name:
Bregan Valengarde
Gender:
Male
Age:
19
Appearance:
A thick mop of orange-brown hair crowns his head, more easily described as being similar to the color of rust. The exact length is somewhat difficult to ascertain, due to a slight rigidity in the locks which keeps it rather nicely out of his face, however it can be assumed that it reaches further down than his chin if slack were allotted. As for his chin itself, a small goatee has nestled itself there, the same rusted orange-brown as the rest of his hair. His body in whole is rather well structured. A simple, minor note on eyes, they possess a rather dull blue color, almost akin to silver. His skin is only slightly tanned, so it is suggested that he gets at least a half-decent amount of sun. His musculature is rather well-toned, in accordance with his belief that his Pokemon should be able to depend on him as much as he can depend on them. Height-wise, he is around average, about 5'7". As to his weight, it rarely fluctuates far from 160 pounds.
Of course, the most notable physical aspect of Bregan would be his outfit. More specifically, the large plates of metal that encompasses most of it, both acting in a manner akin to and suspiciously similar in appearance to armor. While the precise metal is unknown, steel can be easily assumed, given its lovely silver color. Of course, while the armor is impressive, it falls distinctly short of covering his entire body, though this also has the practical purpose of giving some leniency as far as movement restriction and weighting down. His entire right arm is covered, right up to the shoulder, along with the upper part of his torso, and his left shoulder in a lesser degree to the right. The lower half of his body is generally well covered, though the plating doesn't look quite as nice as the top half. His left arm, however, is almost entirely bare of armor, along with his stomach and the lower part of his back, and some sections on the back of his legs.
As for the rest of his attire, a dark red shirt - sleeveless, as his unarmored arm displays - covers the section of torso where a lack of armor has left bare. To cover up the blank spots on the lower half of his body, black pants are worn underneath his armor. He also seems to lack a helmet, seeming rather odd considering all things. He also possesses a large steel shield, held in his left hand when in use, to better cover up the gaping opening, and a simple long sword, no sharper than a steak knife, positioned on the left side of his waist, to be accessed by his right hand.
Personality:
Bregan personality wise is rather easy to describe: he practically lives by the code of chivalry taught to him by his mother. To do otherwise would seem foolish to him, and cannot understand what others find so difficult about it. To women he is courteous, and he prefers to make his intentions clear in all works. Underhanded tactics are not much to his preference, though he is quite an excellent strategist. He also possess an especially strong sense of duty. However, on the spectrum of good and evil, he is a particularly neutral spirit, realizing that people all have their own opinions, and possessing no wish to enforce his own beliefs beyond himself.
The most interesting aspect of his mindset, though, is how he feels about Pokemon. He feels that, as his partners, they should be able to depend on him as much as he depends upon them. So, he honed his body to be strong, so that he may defend them when they cannot. Most people wouldn't think of going so far out of the way for Pokemon, however he is always willing to go the extra mile. Perhaps one day this unyielding loyalty could be extended to human companions, as well, though that is yet to be seen. On a final note, keep in mind that, while he is a knight, one shouldn't expect him to start speaking with "art"s and "thou"s.
History:
Bregan's story is no epic tale, in some ways rather unbefitting a 'knight of his quality' as he often proclaims. Most of his life was really quite normal, it was simply the place that affected things most. Where he grew up, across rather vast seas from this region, his people are effectively slaves, regardless of that not being the exact term used, to another race of people, the only difference between the two being the access to Pokemon, which Bregan's people had very little. Due to this, the conquering went over rather easily, with little to no difficulty. For two generations now, Bregan's people have known this life, and have made do the best that they can, trying to scramble together some form of culture.
Bregan was born into this slavery, though in a particularly unusual manner. Genevieve, a knight of the ruling people's order, came upon Bregan's father, Kalec, one day, he washing his clothes in the river, she setting out on one quest or another. As their eyes met, the chemistry was almost instantaneous, and they went out of their way to meet each other... in complete secrecy, of course. To be discovered with each other would mean death, no questions asked. When Genevieve discovered that she was with child, things were slightly complicated, so she effectively 'lost' herself during one of her quests once it got to the point where it would be obvious before long, showing up to Kalec, and blending in with his help. He obliged, and in that way that funny time enjoys to fly, Bregan's sister Alexandra was born, and two short years proceeding that, Bregan himself came to be. Life went on as normal for a while, and both Kalec and Genvieve were quite content.
Of course, all that you might truly expect from life has to end somewhere. Genevieve taught Bregan much, particularly in the ways of combat, mannerisms and Pokemon. Being a rather well-versed knight herself, she schooled him in not only the manner of sword and shield, but also great swords and the mighty sword-staff. Where mannerisms are concerned, she taught him a knight's discipline, as well as the chivalric code. As for Pokemon, while she had released hers before coming to live with Kalec, she was able to explain a great deal about them, particularly passing down the belief of a mutual dependency. Around the point where Bregan had turned nine, and his sister eleven, she had been wearing her armor and allowing him to take blows at her. Unfortunately, this was her fatal mistake, as it had trailed too far into the afternoon. The day guard passed the house, recognized the armor, and seized her. Kalec held Bregan back defensively, though he struggled towards them. Genevieve begged of the guards, and, to the surprise of all present, they indulged her due to her great service to the ruling people. She was executed - her head and left arm removed, and her stomach opened up - but Kalec, Alexandra, and Bregan spared on the grounds that they would remain in their current position of life, in slavery. With the exception of Genevieve, life would return to normal before long.
Once again, however, it couldn't stay normal. On a day ten years later, around the time of Bregan's nineteenth birthday, he woke up to his sister shaking him. It wasn't until after she reminded him impatiently that today was that of the marriage father had arranged for him. His father had also suggested that he make no mention of the skill he acquired from his mother, regardless of how he continued his training. Both he and one of his childhood friends were to be married today to brides chosen by their parents, and neither one was very thrilled at the idea. However, it wasn't until the ruling lord's son, Silas, came to visit that either one felt any responsibility to their women. He was a rude, slovenly, lust-filled devil, who refused to leave until Alexandra beat him over the head with a large bottle while Bregan had stood up to him, effectively distracting him, knocking him unconscious and forcing his companions to take him back to his hall. Later, though, just when the marriage was to commence, Silas returned with armed men, beating Bregan into submission along with his old friend, and taking both brides, attendees, and Alexandra to his hall.
Once Bregan regained consciousness, he and his friend managed to sneak into the hall, fighting past the guards using armor and weapons that they obtained along the way, and eventually reaching and killing Silas, with some assistance from some palace workers. They found one attendee dead along the way, and Alexandra was an absolute wreck, heaven knows what happened to her. When they returned to their home, they knew what would happen to them. They would be hunted down and murdered. Kalec, however, seemed to have a different plan in mind. Instead, two dead bodies would be strung up in the stolen armor, claiming to have killed them for trying to bring violence between their people again, while Bregan's friend would be hidden, and Kalec would take Bregan to the docks, sent away by ship and to never return. Before the ship departed, Bregan decided that he would try and live by his mother's standards, and his father gave him a gift: armor - looking as though it had been patched from significant damge, missing a large section from the stomach, the helmet, and the left arm - a shield, and a sword. Bregan gave his father one last hug, and boarded the ship, never looking back.
